Sometimes we just need to get moving toward our writing dreams.

Sometimes (in our writing lives) we want to go directly from being an egg to flying like an eagle. We can’t.
Time to Break Out
You’ve incubated your writing dream long enough. It’s time now to hatch, to wiggle your wings, to dry your feathers, to walk, run, eat good food–and then fly.
Don’t stay inside your egg too long. As C.S. Lewis says, at some point you will go bad. And by default, the writing dreams will die.
Don’t let that happen to you!
Love this “short but sweet” analogy. I’m going to work hard and remember that my dreams will never be realized if I don’t crack my way out of this egg I’m in! As always…thanks Kristi!
Audrey, thanks for your comment. 🙂 Had something unexpected to deal with today, hence the “short but sweet” post. But it was a new quote to me, and it applied to my own situation! So I thought I would share it.
Moving forward – just doing it and moving forward – is what I need to keep strong in mind now! It’s too easy to feel like planning or writing and rewriting is all there is to it. Either stage is necessary but without the moving forward bit, where are you going? This is something I need to remember and know I’ll need to realise again in future. Thanks for this post! 🙂
So very true, Shweta! Even one step a day, day after day, gets us to our destination eventually. Sometimes I feel like I’m back at the “pecking my way blindly out of the egg” stage, but you gotta do what you gotta do to keep moving forward. 🙂
I don’t think his quote was about being perfect or better or patience. This post may not apply to you–not all posts apply to everyone. But I DO know that some writers are still trying to get out of the shell–just beginning–but think they should be flying already. Others sit in their shells and do things like read a lot or journal, but don’t actually practice their writing craft, and wonder why they aren’t flying. This was mostly to help people discover where they are in the process–and come out of denial, if it applies to them. I guess I should have made that more clear.

Damon, it dates me too because I remember the little song that goes with that. Loved Weebles! Sometimes I feel like one of those old inflated toys with the weighted bottoms that kids can punch, and they fall over, but spring back up. Same principle at the Weebles! 🙂
